"Old Embroidery Very Worn But What A Presence! "
Old embroidery very worn, many missing silk thread stitches .... my description starts badly! But on the old base which seems to be silk and maybe linen, appears the drawing which was used to delimit the contours of the embroidery work. In addition to the fact that we have here an interesting document to understand how these "needle paintings" were made, with a preparatory drawing, the "testimony" side of this object also turns out to be a real old work. The drawing is of high quality. The border in metal threads is in good condition as well as the Latin phrase under the image "pasce oves meas" that Jesus says to St Peter when entrusting him with the destiny of Christianity. The few fine traces of colored silk remaining give an idea of the delicacy of the work which was perhaps applied to an orphrey. The perspective, the faces, the expressions of the characters make this vestige a work of art in its own right, textile, drawing, object of curiosity etc... The high quality framing is modern and almost museum-like. Total dimensions: 45cm by 40cm. The embroidery alone: 32cm by 24cm.
