During the exhibition in June 1900 of Alphonse Legros' prints at the Musée du Luxembourg, a proof of The Abandoned Village was presented under n°87 and described by Léonce Bénédite in the catalogue as follows: "On the banks of a river flowing to the right, abandoned stubble among pollarded willows and, further away, a ruined castle" (Léonce Bénédite, Catalogue of the exhibited works of Alphonse Legros, Paris, Motteroz, 1900, p. 79).
