Oil painting on canvas depicting St. Teresa d'Avila. The work, datable between 1630-50, is part of the series of paintings depicting female figures, religious and noble women of which Zurbaran was able to portray with shrewd mastery. The painting has been identified as the work of Francisco Zurbaran, by the late art historian and friend Heinrick Pfeiffer. The scholar, Professor of Art History at the Pontifical Gregorian University known as one of the greatest connoisseurs of Christian Art, was also a member of the Pontifical Gregorian University for the cultural heritage of the Church.
