This work is authored by Jeanne de Valois St Rémy, Countess of la Motte (1756-1791), who played a less than stellar role in the Affair of the Queen's Necklace. She escaped from prison in 1787 and was forced to flee to London, where she wrote her memoirs, which include false intimate relations with the Queen. She died in London after throwing herself out of her hotel room.
