This painting is signed lower left Hermelein.
Carl Johann Nepomuk Hermelein painter born in Mainz in 1807 and died in Vienna in 1884. A student in Paris with Paul Delaroche and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Vienna, his career took place mainly between France, Prussia and Austria.
After his meeting with the Austrian Chancellor Prince Metternich in 1837, he participated for several years in the exhibition of the Darmstadt Art Association (years 1837-1838).
He mainly painted paintings for altars but also portraits or historical scenes.
