Herend is a Hungarian porcelain manufacturer based in the eponymous town of Herend, near Veszprém. The Herend Porcelain Factory (Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt. in Hungarian) specializes in hand-painted and gilded luxury porcelain. In the mid-19th century, it was the supplier of the Habsburg dynasty and the European aristocracy. Many of its classic models are still produced. After the fall of communism in Hungary, the factory was privatized. It is currently 75% owned by the management and its staff. In 2006, the factory was profitable and exported to more than 60 countries worldwide. Its main markets are Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
