Lovely and rare chocolate pot in solid silver of the first title (934%) with the hallmarks of the Ghent guarantee office for the period 1814-1831. It also bears the hallmark of master goldsmith of Livinus De Bast, goldsmith and engraver in Ghent from 1818 to 1829. As in the eighteenth century, the fretel of the lid can be unscrewed to free an opening which should allow the introduction of a frother. The frother is a wooden utensil that should be rolled between the palms of the hands in order to homogenize the drink until it foams, but also to mix the grated chocolate well with the liquid. A worked wooden rod equipped with mobile concentric circles or grooves, this chocolate whisk was already used by the Aztecs in the form of a branch or a reel.
