Object description :

"Monstrance Reliquary Of Saint Quirin Martyr"
Monstrance Neo-Gothic Reliquary of the 19th century mounted on a base and intended to preserve and display a sacred relic of Sancto Quirino M Description This large Monstrance Reliquary is made of painted wood covered with worked metal (brass or copper), with floral details in relief. Of ogival shape reminiscent of the Gothic architecture of churches and cathedrals. Two crossed palms under the relic: they symbolize martyrdom and victory over death. Christian “P” (chrismon) insignia at the top, an ancient symbol of Christ. A Latin cross tops the reliquary, emphasizing its sacred function. The Relic This is a bone fragment, displayed behind glass on a red velvet background. A handwritten strip of paper bears the inscription “De Sancto Quirino M.”, meaning “Of the Holy Quirinus Martyr.” The back of the reliquary shows three red wax seals and a sealed ribbon, guaranteeing the authenticity of the relic according to the standards of the Catholic Church. About Sanctus Quirinus Martyr There may be several martyr saints named Quirinus, but the best known are: Saint Quirinus of Neuss (d. c. 115)* Roman soldier converted to Christianity, martyred under Emperor Hadrian. Highly venerated in Germany, especially in Neuss where his relics are kept. Saint Quirinus of Siscia (d. 309) Bishop of Siscia (today Sisak in Croatia), persecuted under Diocletian. Thrown into a river with a millstone tied to his neck, he became the patron saint of drowned people. This reliquary was probably intended for an altar, a church or a private collection. Condition Very good condition Authenticity guaranteed: The presence of seals and ribbons confirms it Do not hesitate to contact me for any additional information concerning this very beautiful object.
