"Antique Jewelry - Ethnic Silver Pectoral Necklace - Omane - Circa 1900-1930 "
Fine Silver "Somt" Omani Pectoral Necklace circa 1900-1930. 92.5 Sterling Silver with genuine Maria Theresa Thalers silver coins from 1780. This Omani necklace, which would have been a large part of a bride's dowry; comprises a round silver disc of a "Sunburst" decorated with "Niello". There are eight coins set on double barrel shaped mounts; silver Maria Theresa Thalers dated 1780. As well as twenty silver single barrel shaped beads. Omani tribal silver was still possible to find in the markets of Muscat, Nizwa, Ibri, Sur or Salalah or in the more remote mountain villages during the 1960s - 1970s. Unfortunately this is no longer possible. Real authentic pieces are only found in private collections and/or museums around the world. Omani silver is prized by tribal jewelry collectors. First of all, it is relatively rare. Oman never had a large population so there is an added interest, to the rarity of this necklace. It is important to note that all elements have wear and patina showing their age and that the old silver is of high quality.
