Object description :

"Antique Mechkabad Carpet, 140 X 219 Cm, Finely Hand-knotted Wool, Iran 19th Century, Kadjar Dynasty"
Splendid old Mechkabad carpet from the end of the 19th century.
This very beautiful piece measures 140 cm wide and 219 cm long.
The carpet is in very good condition, the wool is finely tight, soft and of very good quality.
These carpets come from the village of the same name, Mechkabad.
They were called Mahal and then Sarouk-mahal, because they come from the Mahallat region.
The city of Mechkabad, very important in the 19th century, a large center of carpet production, is no longer even mentioned on maps.
Abandoned by its inhabitants, only ruins remain, which can be seen when taking the road from Arak to Qom, about 25 km from Arak on the right.
A midnight blue, almost black, cut-out medallion placed on a brick red field, taking up the cut-out shape of the Sarouk.
Our piece does not differ from the old Mechkabadle type..
## Note the quality of the medallion inscribed with these two superb floral pendants in the shape of long halberds.
The beauty of the spandrels is remarkable, beautiful interlacing on a blue background.
The border has a sought-after and subtle design on a midnight blue background.
These pieces are always abundantly flowered. ## Unfortunately many people confuse them with other types of carpets and provenances.
Our model is in very good condition for its age, it is a beautiful collector's carpet, it has the characteristics described above. Fringes and selvedges are in good original condition
This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
