The snuffbox has a "tomb" shape with a narrow base widening in an ogee towards the lid.
The lid presents a scene to be identified: a woman is in the center, to her right a person who may be Hercules, with a club in hand and a long headdress that may be the skin of the Nemean lion. To her left, a third character dressed as a soldier.
This scene is framed by large rocaille scrolls of curves and counter curves.
The body is decorated with a face embossed on the front and chiseled rocaille shells on the other sides.
The bottom is also chiseled with a rocaille cartouche.
The interior is in plain pomponne with beautiful gilding.
Pomponne is a gilded copper alloy imitating gold at a lower cost.
Superb snuffbox with a typical decoration from the reign of Louis XV. The tomb shape, which is relatively rare for this type of box, allows a very good grip and demonstrates intelligence in the design of this box.
