M.Braun. Oil on cardboard "Saint Bartholomew's Church near Lake Königsee, Bavaria" signed lower left M Braun. Foreign school. 40.3 X 30.4 cm. Maurice Braun (1877-1941) was born in Hungary. He emigrated to the United States of America in 1881. At the beginning of the 20th century he was a student of William Merritt Chase (1849-1916). He spent the year 1902 in Europe in search of his origins. Our painting was made at the very beginning of the 20th century, that is undeniable. The soft and harmonious palette corresponds to that used by the painter when he created his famous landscapes of California. The signature is engraved with a point, it ends with a tilde, a distinctive sign that the artist would almost systematically adopt throughout his rich career. Unframed. Some scratches. Good general condition.
