"Portrait Of A Magistrate By Henri Pinta "
Spectacular portrait of a Court of Auditors Advisor, in audience robes, made by Henri Pinta. Henri Pinta (1856-1944) was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1884 for Le salue de Brutus après la mort de Lucrece, and was in residence at the Villa Medecis from 1885 to 1888. It was during this stay that he made a famous portrait of his friend Claude Debussy, who was also hosted at the famous villa. His work focused on large projects, often religious, he then made large altar paintings, or cartoons for stained glass windows or mosaics. Many churches in Marseille house his work. Here we have a private commission where his mastery of colors is expressed in a classical language. This portrait pays homage to the masters of the 17th century where the great servants of the state were represented in grand attire. An original gilded frame (minor accidents in photos) accompanies the painting. This one does not appear to have been cleaned and remains in excellent condition.
