Two paintings depicting a musketeer for one and Henri IV for the other, signed lower right by Marguerite Espenan-Cresson. They are oils on canvas mounted on panel. The frame is signed M Molinier in Agen. Marguerite Espenan-Cresson was born in Agen in 1867. From the Bourrières family, all artists or patrons of the arts, she showed a talent for drawing and painting at a very young age. A student of the renowned studio of Maître Barrias in Paris, she exhibited at the Salon des artistes français and that of women painters in 1886. A master in the art of portraiture, the artist followed the pictorial developments of her time including impressionism which is reflected in her works. It is exhibited at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Agen. Dimensions of the Musketeer: 54 X 45 cm including frame, 44 X 36 cm without frame.
