Object description :

"The Marquise And The Marquis Fénis De Saint Victour, Paper Cut In 18th Century "
The Marquis and Marquise Saint Fenis de Lacombe de Saint Victour and their children playing music in the medieval family castle of Saint Victour in Corrèze.
Silhouettes in black cut-out paper glued to paper, late 18th century. Very good general condition, modern frame.

The young René de Saint Fenis plays the violin and reads the score placed on the music stand lit by a candle. His silhouette tells us that he was left-handed and the annotation on the back that he died in America for the independence of the United States. Monsieur le Marquis born in 1735 and died in 1809 holds an open book with his legs crossed. His daughter Laure who died almost a hundred years old plays the harp, before marrying Antoine Chazette de Bargues in 1809. The Marquise seems to be holding a book, she listens to her children's music. She died in 1809, a month before her husband at the Château de Saint Victour where most of her life, like that of her daughter, seems to have taken place.
