Kees Van Dongen (1877-1968) was a dutch origin painter . He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam from 1892. He began his career by illustrating the Dutch version of Protopkin's book "Anarchy", then came to Paris in 1897 and illustrated an issue of "L'Assiette au Beurre". In 1904, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants alongside Vlaminck and Matisse, then in 1905 at the Salon d'Automne with Matisse. They would form, with other artists, the group of Fauve painters. In 1911, he exhibited at the Bernheim gallery, then briefly formed part of the German expressionist group Die Brücke. He became the painter of Paris high society . His reputation was tarnished after the war because he was one of the artists who agreed to take a study trip to Germany organized by Brecker, the The counterpart of this trip was to be the liberation of artists who were prisoners of war. He then continued to create until his death in 1968.
