"Portrait Of A Man, Vanity"
Portrait of a young man in an interior in front of a library, a book in his hands, a skull placed on a table at his side. Note the care taken by the artist in the representation of the clothes. The character represented, perhaps a philosopher, is particularly elegant with his brightly colored waistcoat, his coat with black lapels, his lavaliere tie decorated with a coral pin. He wears a ring on his index finger that seems to present a Roman intaglio. Signature "Bellechasse"? dated 1842. Note an accident to the glass at the bottom right. The white marks on the photos are reflections in the glass of the pastel.
