Portrait of Eugène DELACROIX (1798-1863) French painter, main representative of Romanticism, signed by Pierre Petit in red on the image. Vintage print on salted paper, Sortais collection. Size 19 x 23 cm Frame size: 31 x 36 cm This is the most famous portrait of Delacroix. The posing session at Pierre Petit's was the subject of several poses and different prints from this session can be found at the Musée d'Orsay and the Metropolitan in New York as well as at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. Pierre Lanith PETIT (1831 - 1909), learned the photographic technique with Eugène Disdéri, the inventor of the carte de visite photo. He was nicknamed "Collodion the hairy". In 1859, he began an ambitious project of Galerie des hommes du jour, composed of portraits accompanied by biographical notices of personalities at the center of current events in shows, culture and political life.
