"Le Creusot Crystal Carafe"
The Creusot crystal factory, originally created at the request of Queen Marie Antoinette, was first installed in Sèvres to compete with English crystal, then transferred to Creusot for reasons of lower cost of raw materials (coal and sand) in order to compete with English crystal and no longer depend on English imports for the supply of crystal. Production, interrupted during the revolution, resumed around 1800 and was at its peak between, say, 1830-1838, the date of its closure and its purchase by Baccarat and Saint Louis, who also transferred the manufacturing molds and certain master glassmakers, thus continuing the manufacture of its high-quality objects.
