Imposing Pair Of Marble Marquetry Paintings, 19th Century

Imposing pair of 19th century hard stone marquetry paintings attributed to the Opificio delle pietre dure in Florence.
These are two important paintings depicting multicoloured birds perched on bouquets of flowers above cartouches decorated with floral scrolls.
The thick, moulded frames are made of yellow Siena marble.
The paintings themselves are sealed on large slate plaques as is often the case in this Florentine workshop.

The bird and flower marquetry is executed on a black marble background and we find materials in marble and semi-precious stones:
porphyry
malachite
lapis lazuli
rosso antico
heliotrope or blood jasper
yellow siena
sea green
green jasper
etc...

The whole is magnificent and very colourful, in excellent condition apart from a few insignificant chips on the frames.

Be careful, of course the weight is significant!

a rare pair of multi-colored paintings with a cheerful theme, in large dimensions, not common on the market.
