Oil on canvas by the Impressionnist painter Amand Gautier (1825-1894) to be considered in the cotext of his series on orphans.
Highly appreciated by his fellow artists, during a visit to Paul Cezanne at Auvers sur Oise in 1881 Très apprécié des artistes, lors d’une de ses visites en 1881 Paul Gauguin purchased one of his paintings. Amand Gautier was contemporary to the main actors of Impressionnist painters and associated with the main actors of avant garde art of the period. A long, quick and intensely moving brushstroke is characteristic of his work, which is distinctly a part of the Impressionnist movement. To bear witness to his activity at the center of this movement, we present his portrait painted in 1854 of DoctorGachet, the close friend of Renoir, Monet, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
