The box is rectangular with rounded corners. It is entirely engraved with foliage scrolls, small flowers, rocaille shells, and under the box, a lattice. The whole stands out against a finely chiseled background of parallel lines.
Each engraved decorative element is in vermeil, contrasting magnificently on the white silver background.
The gilding work on this box is exceptional and gives it an incomparable decorative aspect. The finesse of the golden scrolls or the lattice of the bottom reinforce the preciousness of this snuff box.
The interior of the box is in vermeil.
The box has been hallmarked with a boar's head for solid silver since 1838.
Unfortunately, there is no goldsmith's hallmark to identify the author of this piece.
Remarkable gilding work for this superb snuffbox, testimony to the know-how and patience of the goldsmiths of the second half of the 19th century.
