"Blackamoor Clock"
Empire clock from the beginning of the 19th century in chiseled, gilded and patinated bronze, it represents "Atalia freeing the Indian Chactas", an episode taken from the novel by Chateaubriand Atala, published in 1801.
Chactas, adopted son of a Christian, is taken prisoner by an enemy tribe.
But Atala, the daughter of the chief, also educated in the Christian religion, frees him and flees with him.
The story, as we know, will end badly: the base of the clock illustrates in bas-relief, the funeral of Atala.
