Paul Permeke, 1918-1990, Belgian painter of landscapes and figures. Coming from a family of artists, he is the son of Constant Permeke and grandson of Henri Permeke. He is a self-taught figurative painter, he expresses himself in a strong style and vigorous coloring whose style hesitates between impressionism and expressionism. He paints with a dark palette popular scenes: towns and villages, rural scenes, circus and variety artists, fantastic scenes, carnival, beach scenes and landscapes. His stays in southern countries later lightened his palette. He stayed in Spain, Portugal, Paris and the south of France and Switzerland. He returned to live in Belgium in Westkapelle in 1960 and died in Bruges in 1990. Artist listed in Bénézit, Arto and Piron. Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc.
