La dame au roses also known as the allegorical representation of spring. Resting on a circular moulded white marble pedestal, Signed on the right side ‘J. Clésinger’. This bust testifies to the Romantic movement in mid-19th century France. The smooth sculpted surface contrasts with the supple drapery, delicate flowers, leaves and refined locks of hair.
Jean-Baptiste dit Auguste Clésinger (1814-1883) is known for his important production of bronzes but also for his marble sculptures of historical subjects, portraits, as well as monumental commisioned marbles.
Clésinger participated regularly in the Paris Salon and is featured in collections of several museums.
A large bronze bust of La dame au roses is in the Musée d'Orsay.
