Elegant bronze candlestick dating from the end of the Renaissance (16th/17th century), often referred to as the "Henry II torch".
This candlestick is distinguished by the great finesse of its details and the harmony of its proportions. It is composed of: A slightly truncated cone-shaped socket or cup, with a cylindrical extraction window, overhanging a graceful shaft, separated by a collar. The subtly rounded and smooth column shaft ends with a refined cylindrical entablature. The whole rests on a thick base, meticulously hand-shaped on the lathe, decorated with a delicately worked relief molding on the top, which guarantees perfect stability (see photos).
Dimensions:
- Height: 24 cm
- Diameter: 15 cm
Condition: Good general condition.
Note : two small cracks probably due to a fall, and subsequently reinforced by the underside of the foot. No missing parts, the whole remains solid and aesthetic (see photos).
This candlestick is a remarkable testimony to French bronze craftsmanship at the end of the 16th century, combining elegance and robustness. A rare collector's item, ideal for enriching a collection or integrating a refined decoration.
