François Auguste Ravier was born in Lyon in 1814 and died in Morestel (Isère) in 1895. Ravier was a friend of Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875). The two artists often walked the countryside together, sharing their passion for painting. The Lyon artist was hypnotized by the sun, so much so that at the end of his life, he lost his sight. All the work of this painter, a poet if ever there was one, was dedicated to this ability to capture the light diffused at all hours of the day by the sun god. He excelled in this art. The Louvre, Lyon, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne Museums, among others, preserve his works. Our painting is a brilliant example of Ravier's quest for the absolute. The mastery of light was his ultimate goal and the thrilling touches he applied to our panel take us on a momentary journey to the countryside around Lyon on a beautiful autumn evening. Wooden frame and painted and patinated stucco from the period.
Good condition.
The Panel has never been touched since it was framed at the end of the 19th century.
