"Breton women resting"
Watercolor on paper,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful work by the painter Frank Scheidecker which represents two Breton women sitting in a field near a mill, perhaps in the vicinity of Vannes where the artist made several watercolors. Known for being difficult, the artist virtuously creates this watercolor, perfectly representing the faces and clothes of his two young Breton women.
Born in Manchester, to an Alsatian father who was a fabric designer, Frank Scheidecker made a career in Mulhouse in the arts and crafts. But his passion remained painting and watercolor, which his father did not give him the opportunity to study at the Beaux-Arts, so as not to lose his talent in the family business. It was therefore with his brother Paul, who had this chance, that he refined his pictorial technique.
Creativity has always been Frank Scheidecker's driving force, first in his early years as a designer for printed canvases, an activity he carried out from a young age with his father and until his death in the family business with one of his brothers. Then at the end of the 19th century, driven by the desire to renovate the applied arts, and after trying his hand at pyrography, wood painting and furniture designs, he finally found his way in the work of chiseling copper or silver. His field extends to all the metal appliques that complete a joinery: cover plates, lock entries, door handles. For the table, he creates trays, coffee services, knife rests, bread baskets, even silverware. He designs suspensions and lampshades, clocks, he composes combs, belt buckles…
