Oil on oak panel (one board only) Presented in a blackened and vigorously molded oak frame.
Total dimensions: 46 x 53 cm. The panel alone: 27 x 35.5 cm
This precious little panel represents an Italianate landscape with a fortified village in a hilly countryside with a waterfall. But the profuse vegetation as well as the group of villagers and especially the style; undoubtedly direct us towards a Flemish painter and more particularly from Antwerp. Indeed, most of the painters from the North traveled to Italy and trained there, on their return, they kept this influence and this "Italian" taste which also permeated even those who had not traveled there. Our research allows us to attribute this painting to Thomas van Apshoven (Antwerp 1622-1665) for the figures (very close to David Teniers; his master), and to Lucas van Uden (Antwerp 1595-1672) for the landscape. They collaborated to produce charming landscapes animated by figures.
Recently cleaned of its oxidized varnish, this revealed fresh colors and the whole in excellent condition of conservation.
