The picturesque gardens of the Esplanade de Montbenon provide a splendid vantage point to enjoy the expansive Lake Geneva and the majestic Swiss Alps. Developed during the early 19th century, visitors would flock here to promenade among its ample lawns and abundant trees. Sitting awhile to chat while admiring the vista.
Completed in around 1835, this exceedingly charming drawing was probably produced on the spot, or at least in part. It’s perhaps simply a memento of an enjoyable day by the lake.
Held within a later frame and glazed.
