Important Amaranth Regulator, Regency Period

This remarkable and prestigious violin-shaped regulator testifies to the elegance and virtuosity of 18th century watchmakers and cabinetmakers.
Designed in amaranth and satin veneer, it presents on the front a leaf with a dormer window and very fine inlaid decoration, with a diamond point pattern bordered by fillets and curling, illustrating particularly refined work.

The dial is in gilded bronze and delicately chiseled with acanthus leaves. It is distinguished in three concentric circles. The hours are indicated in Roman numerals by a gilt bronze hand while the minutes and seconds in Arabic numerals respectively by a gilt bronze and iron hand.
The dial is signed by N Baradelle in Paris (Nicolas-Jacques Baradelle 1701-1770 renowned watchmaker and manufacturer of scientific instruments of this era)

A sumptuous chiseled and gilded bronze trim, typical of the rocaille style, enriches the whole. We discover a Diana in the coronation at the top overlooking the dial surrounded by a berain frieze and surmounted by a mask crowned with acanthus leaves.
At its base, there is a large shell richly framed with acanthus leaves.

LThe body is decorated in its upper corners with two Indian masks and a smiling cherub in the center. It overlooks a berain frieze framing the diamond-point frieze and surmounting the central skylight. This reveals a pendulum, an important part of the mechanism, decorated with a mask of smiling Bacchus, a symbol of celebration and rejoicing. It is surrounded by acanthus leaves and a central Indian mask and presented by two cherubs in high relief on either side.

The base has the same similarity of diamond point frieze surrounded by a bérain frieze. It is enhanced in its lower corners with grotesque masks and an arched base presenting a shell and acanthus leaves in its center.
This important and prestigious gilded bronze trim demonstrates a rich and symbolic aesthetic.

This exceptional clock embodies the refinement of the French 18th century and illustrates the talent of the artisans of the time, uniting technical sophistication and decorative sumptuousness.
