"16th Century Italian Walnut Chest"
Italian Walnut Chest From the end of the 16th Century The central coat of arms is carved with motifs from La Fontaine's Fable "The Crow and the Fox". Below on the cornice the letters "IHS" with a cross Lesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus Savior of Humanity). The chest rests on 4 claw feet. It has undergone some restorations over time. Good general condition. Chests in Italy in the 16th century were called "Cassonne", they were offered as a wedding gift. They were presented in front of a four-poster bed.
