Watercolor by Antoine Barbier 1859 1948 The Bridge of the Gatekeeper 37 Cm X 27 Cm without frame. Antoine Barbier, born May 10, 1859 in Saint-Symphorien-de-Lay and died February 8, 1948 in Lyon, is a French watercolorist and orientalist painter. In 1925, he won a silver medal at the Salon des artistes français, of which he was a member, and was then placed in Hors-Concours. Grand Prix of the Lyon Society of Fine Arts and medal of honor, he became president of the Lyon section of the Friendly Society of French Painters and Sculptors. Member of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Lyon, he exhibited, among others, at the Salon d'hiver, the Salon des paysagistes français, in Lyon, Algiers, Geneva, Saint-Etienne, etc. His works are preserved at the Carnavalet Museum in Lyon, Bern, Brussels, Oxford, Algiers, Cairo, etc. He also decorated the Roanne Chamber of Commerce. There is a rue Antoine Barbier in Lyon.
