"Caucasus Kazak Gendge Carpet "
Causian rug from the 1880s, in very good condition, from the Gendje family. In the Caucasus, the art of handicraft is very old. In the 17th century, weavers in this region produced ‘rustic’ versions of carpets from Persian workshops, but from the end of the 18th century onwards, Caucasian carpets were characterised by the specific production of each tribe, with their angular, geometric patterns and bright colours.
