"Louis Billotey (1883-1940) Bouquet Of Roses, Birds And Butterfly, Watercolor."
This delightful composition, watercolor partly enhanced with gouache, represents a bouquet of roses with birds and a butterfly; work in nuanced colors signed at the bottom right Billotey. Louis Billotey (1883-1946) studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris and was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome in 1907. A painter in love with classicism, fascinated by Ingres, he excelled in the mastery of drawing. Working almost exclusively for institutional organizations, his notoriety was reduced and he remained unknown to professionals in the art market. However, he exhibited at the Salons des Artistes Français in 1912, 1913; 1922 and 1924 and also won a grand prize at the 1937 Universal Exhibition. His works were rediscovered during "Billotey" exhibitions in the years 2002-2003. Watercolor in excellent condition
