Rare Louis XIV period oak box inlaid in the manner of wood paintings on an ebony veneer background. The floral decoration is very detailed with flowers, foliage, ribbon knots and birds. The interior is richly inlaid with flowers inlaid with blue horn and tortoiseshell. Attributed to Boulle André-Charles (1642-1732) – cabinetmaker – mastery obtained before 1666: Famous cabinetmaker to Louis XIV, André-Charles Boulle is considered the precursor of 18th century French furniture. Far from Italian and Flemish influences, he developed the types of furniture and decorative formulas at the origin of his fame.
