Portrait of a man wearing a Fez, oil on canvas, signed Louis Van Parys and dated 1851. Louis Van Parys, genre and history painter in Paris, died in 1896. He made his debut at the Salon of 1836. He was a descendant of Philip Van Parys, son-in-law of Rubens. He was a drawing teacher and creator of the School of Painting for Young Girls in Bar le Duc. He decorated a chapel of Notre-Dame de la ville and made portraits of the grand masters of the artillery, commissioned by the State in 1848, portraits exhibited at the Musée des Invalides.
