Male fetish, magic object, from the Songye culture, Congo. The object has many charges, antelope horns, animal skins, cords, metal bracelets, ... The eyes are symbolized by inclusions of cowries (shell), the base of the legs taken in the base is eroded in places. We also notice a very deep patina of use and oxidized wood on the eroded parts, all signs of the antiquity of the object which must date back to the end of the 19th century. The object comes from the collection of N. Hug (Paris), it had been purchased in 2008 at a public sale at Drouot (Bonnemaison collection). The object is authentic and has no restoration.
