EBOSHI type
Japan Edo period (1603-1868)
Iron, brass, lacquer.
Eboshi-type Kabuto in natural iron, consisting of a helmet (hachi) with forged bomb in four riveted parts; the curved line is underlined by a crest. On the back, the monoxyl (koshimaki) band is riveted. On the front, the front band (orishi mabizashi) is integral and riveted, with a red lacquer finish on the inside.
A short lateral fin (fukigaeshi) adorns each side, enhanced by a cut-out laton mòn depicting a four-petal flower within a circle.
The front of the helmet features a removable brass ornament called a maedaté. It features a crescent moon.
The neck cover (shikiro) is articulated by two slats, with an underlined curve.
The interior is lined with red fabric.
The kabuto is complemented by a four-blade gorgerin mempo. Wrinkles in the cheeks and cheekbones accentuate the resemblance to real physical features. It is adorned with a horsehair moustache. Red lacquered interior.
The kabuto is a traditional object in Japanese culture. An integral part of military armor, it was worn by high-ranking samurai.
Overall very good condition. On base.
