Joseph Johnson of Liverpool was a highly renowned and successful master watchmaker.
He worked in Liverpool from 1795 to about 1827. After his death on 2 March 1827, his wife Mary, son Joseph Johnson and grandchildren Joseph Johnson Cashen and Joseph Johnson Norris continued his work at least until 1857.
Its watches are of high quality. He is credited with inventing several improvements to the pocket watch design and the watch movement.
His watches were commonly used on US railways.

High quality full plate movement with dust cover, engraved cock, Fusee and english lever escapement with large transparent jewels stopped with screws (also called "Liverpool Jewelling").
