"Nicolas Bedane : Rare Pair Of 18th Century French Solid Silver Candlesticks Angers 1732"
Rare Pair of Louis XV Period Solid Silver Candlesticks with Octagonal Bases. Shafts, Knots and Sockets in the model. Coat of Arms (with Ermines in a Diamond) engraved under the Marquis' Crown. The candlesticks are very well Hallmarked (bases and sockets) with Charge Hallmarks (Number of the Sous-Fermier Félix Arnoul Menou) for ANGERS 1726-38, the Jurande Hallmarks for ANGERS 1732 and Hallmarks of the Master Goldsmith Nicolas BEDANE received to practice in Angers in 1713. He was elected several times as Juror-Guard of the Goldsmiths of Angers Including in 1732 by having the Jurande Hallmark inscribed with the date letter "R"; This explains why this pair does not have a discharge, a Juror Guard could not logically control his own works, in return he affixed his Goldsmith's hallmark on all the parts (base and their perimeter as well as on the sockets, in place of the discharge). This rare pair of candlesticks (called Toilet Candlesticks) from the Louis XV period is in very good condition and remarkably hallmarked, engraved with a Coat of Arms, very good quality, beautiful patina and just micro-scratches from use to note. For the informed collector ....
