Théodore Deck (1823-1891) was a French ceramist who worked for major German princely or imperial patrons at the beginning of his career. In the 1840s and 1850s, he worked for various pottery and earthenware manufacturers. In 1858, the Deck brothers created their ceramics company and produced many shaped pieces. He exhibited his creations at various international exhibitions and fairs and eventually became Director of the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1887. Turquoise blue, close to the color of the porcelain lamps, became his signature and is still called "Bleu Deck" today.
