"Large Wooden Guanyin From The 20th Century"
Guanyin holds a special place in the hearts of millions as the Bodhisattva of compassion. The deity depicted standing on a base simulating waves between which a marine creature insinuates itself, dressed in a loose robe and with a cape on her head, holds in her left hand a flask from which the elixir of long life flows. Made of wood, perhaps rosewood, in a single very heavy block, there are two small missing parts on the back and a crack. The eyes of the figure and of the marine animal with the teeth are made of bone. 20th century republic period.
