Beautiful Icon representing the Virgin of Intercession.It shows Mary in prayer, her head bowed, imploring her son to save humanity.
This icon dates from the begining of the 19th century -- around 1800/1820 -- and comes from the Moscow region.
In the Byzantine style, the work is finely painted in light tones in tempera (paint based on egg yolk and natural pigments) on a wooden panel. Mary's clothes are also richly enhanced with gold.
Good general condition with a beautiful patina. Some losses, cracks and wear of time which are consistent with the age of the icon.
