"Anthropomorphic Gothic Bronze Candlestick – Männleinleuchter – In The Haute Epoque Taste"
Late 19th Century – In the Style of 15th Century Germany This stunning bronze candlestick is inspired by the famous Männleinleuchter (or “figure candlestick”) style, emblematic of Germany during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. This type of candlestick, named after the small sculpted human figures that decorated it, was often used in religious or aristocratic contexts, marrying functionality with refined artistry. This model features two finely detailed figures: a man and a woman, each holding a candelabra in their hand. The quatrefoil base and elegantly curved arms demonstrate remarkable craftsmanship and a neo-Gothic aesthetic, typical of historical reinterpretations of the 19th century. Characteristics: • Material: Solid bronze, with a warm golden patina. • Style: Inspired by the German Männleinleuchter, a direct reference to medieval and Renaissance candlesticks. • Ornaments: Anthropomorphic figures on foot, quadrilobed base, and finely sculpted arms. Historical Context: The original Männleinleuchter, made in the 15th and 16th centuries, were exceptional pieces often used during religious or festive ceremonies. This style influenced craftsmen in the following centuries, who reinterpreted these historical forms to make them decorative or utilitarian objects. This 19th century candlestick perfectly illustrates this homage to Gothic and Renaissance art, while remaining anchored in the neo-Gothic movement specific to this period. Condition: • Good general condition with a beautiful golden patina. • Some light signs of wear, consistent with its age. Dimensions: • Height: 24.5 cm Delivery: Fast and secure shipping via DHL Express, ensuring optimal protection of this unique and historic object.
