" Flemish School (xviii) - The Young Saint John The Baptist With The Agnus Dei"
- Oil on canvas. - This exquisite painting of around 1700 masterfully captures the influences of the long 17th century, both Italian and Northern European, in terms of allegory, mythology and landscape, transforming a religious image into a delicate anatomical study open to exuberant nature. Taking advantage of the Baroque resource of diagonal composition, the adolescent figure of the Baptist stretches between the two opposite corners of the canvas, embraced by fantastically executed shreds of red silk and camel skin. A face animated by the depth of religious feeling culminates the sculptural brushstroke that details the anatomy of the young man, embraced by a pre-Romantic landscape of nebulae and trees. The painting is presented in an early 19th century frame. - Unframed painting dimensions: 115 x 88 cm / 130 x 103 cm with magnificent antique frame. - Galerie Montbaron includes a technical sheet established by a qualified art historian with all its lots.
