- Oil on canvas. - He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and at the workshop of Federico de Madrazo, where he began his studies in historical painting. From a young age, he participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts and won the third medal in the 1864 competition for his work Last Moments of Philip II. He completed his training in Rome, at the Chigi Academy and in the workshop of Mariano Fortuny. His Roman production includes small-format genre paintings with oriental themes and period and historical scenes, such as The Conquest of Oran and The Peace of Cambrai, with which he obtained a third medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1871. Having settled permanently in Madrid, he combined his teaching activities with his artistic activities.
