"Fruit Bowl Marcel Giraud, Dit Cardelle - Vallauris (1937)"
A superb glazed ceramic fruit bowl, in a camaieu of white and grey, in the style of "Fat Lava" by Marcel Giraud known as "Cardelle", from Vallauris, 1937. Marked Vallauris and signed intaglio on the reverse. Marcel Giraud was born in 1937 in Vallauris, France. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter in the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He then worked in several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960, creating mainly utilitarian objects. Since 1975, Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
