This icon comes from Moscow and dates from the end of the 19th century.
Technique: The face of Christ is painted in oil on a wooden panel and the whole is enriched with a guilloche silver coating, called "oklad" in Russian. The back of the icon is also decorated with its original velvet.
The oklad bears the following hallmarks:
1/ Russian silver hallmark "84" (875 thousandths).
2/ Moscow control hallmark.
3/ Hallmark of the master goldsmith Simon Galkin (worked in Moscow at the end of the 19th century).
Very good original state of conservation. Minor wear and cracks.
