"Still Life Flowers Marigolds. Robert Simon. 1926. Oil On Canvas"
Painter: Robert Simon (1888-1961), French painter. He exhibited regularly in Paris, Salon d'Automne, Salon des Artistes Français. He liked to paint on a small format in order to create maximum intensity in a minimum of space. He was friends with the painters Pougny, Kvapil, André Lhote. In this still life we can see a vase placed on a table, containing a bouquet of marigolds, placed off-center on the right. On the left, a statue of a Breton woman adds a picturesque touch. In the foreground, a knife rests on the left of the table, while a small blue book is on the right. The color palette is dynamic, with bright and marked touches that bring the scene to life. The background of the painting is composed of a range of greens in the sky and slowly fades into browner tones near the table. The whole gives off a certain harmony and a particular charm. The painting is an oil on canvas. It is not signed but there is the stamp of the painter's studio on the back as well as a label “vase de soucis et statue bretonne 1926”. It is in good condition, despite some missing paint at the top right. Dimensions: 38 × 46 cm
